Formed in 1996, the Boulder Puppy Raisers group began as an adult offshoot of a 4-H club. Since 1996, we have raised over 400 puppies as guide dog candidates for Guide Dogs for the Blind.
As volunteers, we raise puppies from the age of 8-weeks until they are 15-20 months old. The puppies live with us, and they go to work, school, stores, and other places with us. Our goal is to expose the puppies to as many different environments and experiences as possible, to prepare them for all that they will encounter as a working dog. We also teach the puppies basic commands, good house manners, and provide them with socialization experiences. When the puppy is ready, they return to the Guide Dogs for the Blind campus to receive formal training.
Our club meets on Tuesday evenings at various locations. If you are interested in attending a meeting, please check the club calendar for dates and locations.
