RTD BULLETIN NO. TR-04-7
TRANSPORTATION
TO: ALL OPERATORS DATE: January 20, 2004
FROM: GREG YATES, GENERAL SUPERINTENDENT OF TRANSPORTATION
SUBJECT: FREE TRANSPORTATION FOR SERVICE ANIMAL TRAINERS
INFORMATION
To properly train service animals, they must be exposed to a variety of surroundings. To assist in the service animal's training, the trainer must board all types of public transportation, i.e., buses and Light Rail vehicles.
ACTION
To accommodate the training of service animals, trainers of assistance animals will be allowed to ride free at all times on all RTD vehicles, including Light Rail, regardless of the level of service. Many times the service animal may be identified by a green jacket, but this is not required. It is not necessary for you to ask the individual for certification of special training; take the passenger's word for it.
