The Boulder puppy raising club was formed in 1996 as an adult offshoot from a 4-H club already in existence in the area. Heidi, Lauren, and Debbie (no longer active) were the original leaders for the group and were joined shortly thereafter by Cathy. The club still has many original raisers. Heidi, Lauren, and Cathy continue in the leadership of the group along with major support from original members Jill and Alan.
In the spring, the club holds a recognition dinner for raisers and puppies raised in the club each year. The club also appears annually in the "Lights of December" parade in downtown Boulder. Regular meetings are held at the Boulder Valley Church of Christ and the CU Ski building and monthly outings are planned to locations such as the Pearl St. Mall, McGuckin's Hardware, and Flatirons mall.
To date the club has raised over 219 puppies as guide dog candidates and still has many original raisers raising puppies or helping out as puppy sitters.
